Re copy-editing English, the closest thing I have to a certification is that I scored in the top one percent on the verbal portion of the Graduate Record Exam.

As for my ability to translate German into English, I'd like to quote from a recommendation that Steven Joyce, Professor of German at Ohio State University, wrote for me: "I have taught graduate students in Columbus and find Mr. Udell's performance in translating and understanding difficult texts to be as good as and in many cases better than that demonstrated by some very talented graduate students on the Columbus campus."

> Relevant Translation Experience:
The following concerns my copy-editing skills with English. For information on my ability to translate German to English, please see the section on "Education."

· I suggested to R. J. Rummel, author and Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of Hawaii, the idea of creating a detailed chart presenting a synopsis of his multi-volume thesis on the history of democracies. I wrote for the chart approximately one hundred pages of editorial and design suggestions, most of which Dr. Rummel accepted as improvements. Dr. Rummel made me part owner of the copyright and credited my name on the chart.
· I used writing skills extensively to help a colleague conceive and articulate a proposal that won her the first Fulbright scholarship awarded to a Sunbridge College student (Sunbridge is affiliated with the University of the State of New York);
· Before attending graduate school, took the Graduate Record Exam and scored among the top 1% on the verbal portion of the test;
· As a high school teacher, was responsible for correcting high school students’ grammar, punctuation and style;
· Wrote detailed student evaluations for students’ parents and communicated recommendations for improvements;
· As a legal secretary, used strong verbal aptitudes to edit documents and rapidly and accurately interpret and prepare complicated legal papers. Employed attention to detail, organizational ability, and capacity to manage a heavy workload.
· Intensive work with The Writer's Digest Grammar Desk Reference while copy-editing a chapter from the book of an acquaintance.

> Education:
Master's degree in Education from Sunbridge College (affiliated with the University of the State of New York).

Took two years of college German; spent time in Germany; additional intensive private study with professor of German, from whose recommendation I quoted above (in the "Certifications and Professional Affiliations" section); for my own purposes, translated into English the librettos from several German operas.
